Wedding Insurance: Is it worth considering?

Is Wedding Insurance something you should consider?

Getting married can cost thousands of pounds. For some, it’s the most expensive day of their lives. Taking out wedding insurance can help protect the money tied up in your big day, should something go wrong.

Many of us insure our homes, cars and even phones. But not as many people tend to insure an event that can end up costing as much as a deposit for a house.

According to the website Wedding Planner, the cost of a wedding in the UK in 2023 started at approximately £5,000 and can reach as much as around £50,000. The cost of insurance can range from £40 to £500 depending on your requirements and is usually a one off payment.

You might think that as you’re spending so much already, wedding insurance is one bill you can sacrifice. But if something goes wrong on your big day, you could end up losing some or all of the money you’re spent.

You might be asking yourself, do we really need it?

You’ve spent months planning your wedding, and have carefully selected everything to make sure it goes perfectly. But what if the bridesmaid breaks her leg, the venue/caterer closes, or a storm stops a supplier getting to the venue? UK insurance comparison websites are useful for quotes and policy information. If purchasing, check that the company is registered with the UK Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) and Association of British Insurers, and read the T’s & C’s to make sure the cover is right for you.

I’m not affiliated with any insurance companies and this article does not recommend any particular insurer or type of cover. I know of many couples who have had unforeseen events happen on their big day, and this is something they often opt for to cover against any unplanned events that might occur.

Like any type of insurance, level of cover can vary, so make sure you do your research if this is something you’re considering. For more information, head over to Money Saving Expert where Martin Lewis and his team run you through the finer details.
